The volunteer program (PTO) at Dr. H.O Smith School/Library Street School is designed to provide numerous opportunities to enhance the education of our students. Our goal this year and in the past has been to raise enough money to cover the cost of all fieldtrips throughout the year and provide enrichment programs that are consistent with the educational goals of our school. Our volunteers commit a tremendous amount of time to fundraising and providing support in and around school. They are to be commended for their efforts as they are positively impacting the education of our students.
By participating in these educational experiences that are aligned with our curriculum goals, our students are getting a well-balanced, fruitful education. These experiences have a lasting effect on all our students.
In addition to covering the costs of fieldtrips, the PTO was able to offer enrichment programs and educationally based assemblies. A goal of the PTO was to find people with expertise in a particular area and have those people provide our students with knowledge and insight into those specific crafts or activities. For example, a cartographer from Massachusetts came into teach our third grade classes about map making. They made maps of Hudson, NH, their home town. An author/illustrator taught the students how to use art to improve their writing. Musicians displayed their skills with instruments while educating the students on those instruments. The list goes on and on.
Our school is more successful due to the time and effort put forth by each and every volunteer – THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR OUR STUDENTS, STAFF, AND COMMUNITY!!
